5 November 2025 — The European Commission has announced €2.9 billion in funding for 61 innovative net-zero technology projects across Europe, supported through the Innovation Fund financed by the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS).
The projects cover 19 industrial sectors in 18 countries, including renewable energy, energy storage, net-zero mobility, sustainable buildings, cleantech manufacturing, and industrial carbon management. Together, they are expected to cut 221 million tonnes of CO₂ equivalent over the first decade — comparable to the annual emissions of 9.9 million European cars — supporting the EU’s climate neutrality goal by 2050.
Developers will now enter the grant agreement preparation phase with the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA), with contracts expected to be finalised in the first half of 2026.
The IF24 Call received 359 applications requesting €21.7 billion, highlighting strong demand for low-carbon technologies. All projects were selected based on emission reduction potential, innovation, maturity, replicability, and cost efficiency.
The Commission will launch the next Innovation Fund calls in early December 2025, continuing efforts to advance Europe’s clean technology leadership.
